Estates
What the Estates Team looks after, and how to find it, all in one place.
Introduction
Hatfield Town Council looks after 37 sites across the parish of Hatfield. Our small but focused estates team, made up of dedicated grounds maintenance operatives, caretakers and administrative staff, works all year round to maintain and improve these spaces.
Our Facilities
Our locations are varied and cover a lot of ground across the parish, from open spaces of all shapes and sizes to play areas, outdoor gym equipment and sports facilities, plus a few sites left in a more natural, biodiverse state. Use the cards below to jump into the full list, filtered by what you are after.
Strategies
Our estates team follows the approach set out in two strategy documents, one for Play Areas and Open Spaces and one for the Leisure Centre and Community Halls. They also outline the training and qualifications most of our staff hold.
Play Area and Open Space Strategy
Our Play Area and Open Space Strategy outlines our approach to enhancing our public spaces for the residents of Hatfield and its visitors. It also highlights a focus on health and wellbeing, biodiversity and fostering a sense of community and inclusion for everybody.

When it comes to our facilities for hire, our vision is the same across every location: keep them well maintained, fit for purpose and sustainable now and for the long term. The document also sets out our compliance framework, certifications and licensing.
Read the strategy →Alternative Land Management
Our alternative land management scheme focuses on sustainable practices that prioritise the preservation and wellbeing of the local ecosystem. Now in place at a number of our sites, it encourages biodiversity and supports the growth of local wildlife populations.

Hatfield Hello Benches
These benches, inspired by the well-known Buddy Benches often found in schools, can be found in several of our parks.

This special public art initiative, in collaboration with Butterfly Conservation and the Digswell Arts Trust, showcases the work of three local artists in the Queensway subway and a number of Hatfield Town Council spaces.
