On Saturday 15 February, Green Lanes Allotments once again opened its gates to the public for its annual open day, hosted by the Green Lanes Allotment Association in partnership with Hatfield Town Council. Despite the cold and slightly damp weather, a steady stream of curious visitors braved the conditions to explore the site.

A range of handcrafted items were available for purchase, including bug hotels, planters, and bird feeders. Meanwhile, attendees were treated to a selection of cakes and treats, while the Town Council’s coffee zone trailer was on hand to provide a warm drink or two.
One of the highlights of the day was the potato dig game, which proved to be a hit with children and adults alike. Participants dug through soil in search of hidden potatoes, with lucky winners taking home prize bags for their efforts.

The event also served as an opportunity for visitors to gather information on local services. Representatives from Hatfield Town Council were present to share details about the new Community Hub at Roe Hill, hall hire options in the town, and FunZone activities; visitors could also pick up a town guide.
As always, the open day was a fantastic showcase of the sense of community at Green Lanes Allotments and it continues to be a perfect way to highlight the welcoming atmosphere that it provides its plot holders. Green Lanes Allotment Association and Hatfield Town Council extend their thanks to everyone who attended and we look forward to our event to coincide with National Allotment Week later in the year.
