On September 28th, Mayor of Hatfield, Councillor Gareth Aicken, visited Newgate Street, to attend a Harvest Service, hosted by Ponsbourne St Mary’s School.
In a morning filled with song and reflection, the crowd gathered in the Church of St Mary’s and enjoyed listening to the children perform a range of harvest songs and hear more about their efforts to collect donations on behalf of the Broxbourne Food Bank and the Bishops Harvest Appeal: Cracking Food Poverty in Uganda.
The children and their families were praised for their generosity, as they filed into the building with bags upon bags of goods, many of which required the strength of two or three classmates to carry the length of the church. All of these essential goods will be passed directly to those who need it, via their chosen organisations.
After a selection of well-rehearsed and wonderfully performed songs, the offerings were blessed by Rev. Theresa Musiwacho and the children led the church in a closing prayer.
A huge thanks to Dorothy Marlow and the rest of the staff and students of Ponsbourne St Mary’s for inviting the Mayor to their harvest service!
