Mayor of Hatfield, Councillor Mick Wise, was among guests who enjoyed a vibrant evening of creativity, performance and community spirit at Bishop’s Hatfield Girls School’s 3rd annual Expressive Arts Showcase on 15th July.

The event brought together students, families, and members of the local community to celebrate the talents of the school’s young performers and artists. Representing Hatfield Town Council, the Mayor praised the evening as “a remarkable display of creativity, confidence, and collaboration.”

This year’s showcase featured a diverse and ambitious programme, with performances from students across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5 in Music, Drama, and Musical Theatre. Attendees were treated to everything from solo vocal performances and orchestral ensembles to compelling dramatic scenes and an inventive puppet show that captured the imagination of audiences both young and old.

In addition to the live performances, the school’s Year 11 Arts and Graphics students presented a striking exhibition of GCSE artwork, which further highlighted the depth of artistic talent being nurtured within the school.

Special guest Amy Pettingill, a local artist and former student of Bishop’s Hatfield, returned as guest of honour. Amy generously donated signed prints of her artwork as raffle prizes, adding a further sense of occasion to the evening. Her journey from student to successful artist serving as a powerful source of inspiration for the young creatives involved.

The event also had a charitable focus, with fundraising efforts supporting the school’s ongoing #BEST (Better Educational Spaces for Tomorrow) project — a campaign aimed at improving facilities and ensuring all students, whatever their ability or needs, have access to inspiring, high-quality learning environments.

Speaking after the event, the Mayor described the showcase as “a fantastic example of what makes Hatfield such a special community: talented young people, good teachers, and a belief in the power of the arts”
