On July 17th, we held a very special launch event for the new-look Millwards Park, where we invited children from the nearby De Havilland Primary School to come and be the very first people to test out our brand new play equipment and explore our growing nature area.
After an opening speech and official ribbon cutting by Deputy Mayor of Hatfield, Councillor Mick Wise, the children were free to run, jump, climb, and slide around our newly installed play area, on what was a beautifully sunny Wednesday afternoon.
We were also very lucky to have The Wild Man of the Woods with us, who taught the children about the importance of our relationship with nature, through story-telling, song, and a little humour!
Over in our nature area, we are very grateful to have had Garden on a Roll guiding everybody through a very special flower planting session, where the pupils all had a chance to plant their very own piece of Millwards’ park, which will help encourage important pollinators and wildlife for years to come.
Finally, the day was capped off with the release of a whole flutter of butterflies, with Mayor of Hatfield, Councillor Shirley Asare, on hand to officially open the boxes and populate the nature area.
A video recap of the day can be viewed below.
Once again, a huge thanks goes to our team for their hard work in making this redevelopment happen. We hope the people of Hatfield enjoy this space!
