The Mayoral Handover
Hatfield Town Council held their first Council meeting following the May elections on Wednesday 17 May 2023. With only three returning Members, the Council had an exciting sense of renewal and enthusiasm as Cllr Gareth Aicken was elected the Town Mayor, with Cllr Shirley Asare elected as the Deputy Town Mayor.
Before handing over his chain of office Cllr Bond, the outgoing Town Mayor, was delighted to hand over donations to his two chosen charities, the Jamie McVeigh Foundation and Herts Young Homeless. Both charities received £900 each, the money raised by staff, councillors and residents over the last year.
New Leaders and Committee Assignments
Cllr Larry Crofton, as leader of the majority Labour Group, was confirmed as Leader of the Council, with Cllr Nike Fakoya chosen as Deputy Leader of the Council. Cllr Fakoya will also chair the Resources, Operations and Estate Management Committee.
Cllr Daisy Jerobon and Cllr Tim Rowse were elected as Chair and Vice Chair respectively of the Planning, Environment and Policy Committee. As well as providing a voice for Hatfield residents in planning matters, the Committee will look to facilitate greater community engagement between residents and key stakeholders in the parish.
Conservative Cllr Nat Chapman, congratulated fellow newly elected Councillors Nike Fakoya and Daisy Jerobon for stepping up and taken on the responsibilities of Chairing the two standing committees.
Conservative Group Leader, Cllr James Bond, welcomed the election of the new Members and offered his support and experience. Liberal Democrat Group Leader, Cllr Tim Rowse, echoed the sentiment in the chamber, when he expressed his commitment to working collaboratively and supporting his fellow councillors as they carry out their duties.
