May 21, 2024 | Recent News | 0 comments

At the recent Annual Full Council meeting held at Birchwood Leisure Centre, Councillor Gareth Aicken officially handed over the mayoral duties to Councillor Shirley Asare, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Hatfield Town Council.

Before passing on the responsibility, Gareth took a moment to reflect on his fulfilling year as Mayor. He expressed immense pride in serving the community, building deeper connections with the people of Hatfield, local organisations, and charities. Gareth was particularly pleased with the fundraising efforts for his chosen charity, One YMCA. A representative from One YMCA, Celia Grenville, attended the meeting to accept a £2000 cheque from Gareth on behalf of the Town Council. Celia spoke of her deep gratitude for the council’s support over the past twelve months, highlighting the success of fundraising events such as the Quiz n’ Chips and Bingo evenings at Roe Hill Hall.

In the forthcoming year, though there are many challenges, I look forward to working with the community, Council Officers, and other Councillors to enhance Hatfield,” she said. Alongside Shirley, Councillor Mick Wise was also sworn in as the new Deputy Mayor of Hatfield.
