Quiz and Chips Draws Overwhelming Support for Mayor’s Charity

Feb 26, 2024 | Recent News | 0 comments

Hatfield Town Council extends its heartfelt gratitude to our enthusiastic community members, who turned out in impressive numbers for the Mayor’s Quiz and Chips event at Roe Hill Hall on Friday 23rd February. With over 70 attendees, the sold-out event saw a bustling room of participants, forming 17 teams, all eager to take on the often challenging quiz, personally crafted by none other than the Mayor himself.

Covering a diverse range of topics, including history, geography, words and numbers, local knowledge of Hatfield, and even a fictional map picture round, the quiz proved to be a great source of brain teasing fun, but above all else was a highly successful fundraising effort for the Mayor’s Chosen charity, One YMCA. Following months of planning and preparation from multiple council staff members, the Quiz and Chips night marked a significant stride forward in the way in which money is raised for the mayor’s chosen charity – an annual tradition aimed at spotlighting positive work within the Hatfield community.

Representatives from One YMCA were present at the event, taking the opportunity to introduce attendees to the vital work the organization carries out in the Hertfordshire area, particularly within Hatfield. One YMCA is dedicated to supporting and empowering local communities, providing crucial services in housing, youth work, and well-being initiatives, and the money raised by those that attended the event will have a direct effect on helping to boost the effectiveness of projects they undertake within the next year.

As the Mayor’s chosen charity campaign continues, the final event is on the horizon – the upcoming Virtual Duck Race, set to kick off on March 3rd. Participants can join the excitement by purchasing virtual duck balloons for £3 each, and as many more as they desire before the race commences. The virtual ducks will journey as far as they can until March 14th, with winners to be announced on March 15th.

To participate in this event and support One YMCA, visit here for more information and to purchase your virtual ducks. Your involvement will not only add to the fun of the race, but also contribute to the Mayor’s commitment to making a positive impact in our local community. Let’s come together and make a (virtual) splash for a good cause!
