White Lion Square was transformed into a hub of colour, sound, and celebration on Saturday 21st June, as people gathered for our 2025 community day.
With sunshine and hot weather setting the tone, the event brought together people of all ages to enjoy a packed programme of entertainment, workshops, and family-friendly activities.

Live performances from the Rock Choir, Yadah Praise Choir, and the Welwyn Garden City Male Voice Choir, as well as a a standout set from Hertfordshire’s own alt-folk band, The Hanging Bandits, lifted the square and provided guests with a soundtrack to remember.
Elsewhere in the square, visitors had the chance to explore craft and community stalls, take part in hands-on clothes making workshops led by a London-based fashion designer, and enjoy face painting, games, and an interactive football session. The Reading Railway was also on site, not only providing an assortment of books for young people, but also conducting a book hunt throughout the day, with lucky winners getting to keep what they find. The event also offered an opportunity for the public to connect with local organisations, such as Communities 1st and the Royal British Legion’s Women’s Section, and representatives from our local emergency services.

Speaking online after the event, Cutie Marks Face Painting said: “What a fantastic day in Hatfield Town Centre (despite the heat!). I was so busy that the time flew by! I especially loved the music which kept me going in the heat!”
With a strong sense of togetherness throughout the event, as friends and neighbours mingled, children played, and families soaked up the atmosphere, Hatfield Town Council’s Event’s Committee said the day was about more than entertainment; it was about celebrating the town and the people who make it thrive.

At the close of the day, the Hatfield Town Council Events Committee, made up of Councillors Shirley Asare, Simon Freeman, Gareth Aicken, and Hatfield Town Mayor Mick Wise, spoke of their delight with the turnout and the positive response from the community.
“Thank you to everyone who came out and made this event so special — your support means the world to us. We’re incredibly grateful to be part of such a vibrant community, and we can’t wait to come back next year, bigger and better than ever!”
Councillor Wise added that events like this are key to strengthening community bonds and showcasing the creativity and spirit that runs through Hatfield.
With such a strong show of community pride and participation, plans are already being considered for year’s gathering.
