Hatfield Town Council is delighted to welcome Tracy Cowan as its new Chief Executive and Town Clerk. Tracy brings an abundance of experience in governance and community-focused work, and is stepping into the role with a real enthusiasm for the future.

We are very happy to have Tracy on board, and will let her introduce herself in her own words below.

I am delighted to have been appointed as the new Chief Executive and Town Clerk of Hatfield Town Council and am excited to begin this next chapter serving the residents and communities of Hatfield.

As someone who has spent much of my career working in leadership, governance and community-focused organisations, I have always been passionate about public service and helping organisations make a positive difference. Before joining Hatfield Town Council, I held senior leadership positions within further education and community development, including serving as Group Chief Operating Officer for a large Further Education group and Chief Executive of a Rural and Community Charity. These experiences have given me a deep appreciation of the importance of strong local leadership, effective partnerships and community engagement.

Although I am still in the early weeks of my role, I have already been warmly welcomed by councillors, staff and local partners. I have been struck by the commitment people have to the town and their determination to make Hatfield an even better place to live, work, learn and visit.

Town councils occupy a unique place at the heart of their communities. They are often the closest tier of local government to residents and can make a real difference through local services, community projects, events and partnerships. I firmly believe that listening to residents and working collaboratively with others is essential to delivering positive outcomes and building trust.

Over the coming months, one of my priorities will be to get to know the town, its communities, organisations and businesses better. I am keen to hear from those who care about Hatfield and to understand both the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. By working together, we can build on the town’s many strengths and continue to create a community that people are proud to call home.

I am genuinely excited about the future and privileged to have the opportunity to lead the Council’s staff team while supporting elected councillors in delivering their vision for Hatfield.

I look forward to meeting many more residents, community groups and stakeholders in the months ahead and to playing my part in helping Hatfield continue to thrive.
