Land at Great North Road Welwyn Garden City AL8 7TQ

Redevelopment of the site to include the erection of 9 x 3-bedroom dwellings following the demolition of existing buildings

COMMENT

In general Members support more 3 bed homes being built in Hatfield.  They are concerned about noise from the A1(M), air pollution suffered by future occupiers and the traffic speed on a 40MPH rd.  They would very much welcome a reduction on the 40MPH speed limit or traffic calming measures as this area is becoming more residential.

33.          POTENTIAL RECOMMENDATION FROM COUNCIL - PL/0232/21 – LAND AT HATFIELD AERODROME, OFF HATFIELD RD,

Members considered the application at Planning Register | Hertfordshire County Council.  Councillor Eames-Petersen had prepared a paper which was handed to Members.  Councillor Eames-Petersen agreed to amend some typographical errors in the document and circulate it electronically to all Members so that its contents could be merged with the Council’s response.

Members’ comments were as follows;

·         Other sites in Hertfordshire are more appropriate

·         We acknowledge that the dig site has been moved 50m further away from the contaminated site

·         We acknowledge that the entrance has been moved 5m (but in the wrong direction making it even more dangerous)

·         Cumulative impact on Hatfield – 85 years quarrying now another 35 years

·         HGV movements 164 per day 7am – 6pm 27% increase in HGV traffic,

·         Does this breach WHO guidelines for fumes?

·         Creating accidents, gridlock with other vehicles (reference bus stops with no pull in lay-by)

·         Too close to Uni Sports pitches creating health hazard to students etc

·         Wheel cleaning does not work (ref Coursers Farm Rd)

·         Not suggested conditions but we lack confidence in the enforcement of those conditions

·         Table 7-11 in the impact summary greatly down plays the effect on Hatfield & its residents

·         Object to removal of ancient trees & hedgerows

·         Major detrimental effect on Hatfield

RESOLVED that the Town Clerk be authorised to send this Council’s response following circulation of the draft response to all Committee Members including comments as above and matters raised in the paper by Councillor Eames-Petersen .

(Action: Town Clerk)

34.          NORTHAW & CUFFLEY NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN
